RE: Donation to?
Congratulations , Rogerm! Yes, the Irish Famine (also known as the Great Hunger)

In fact it is said that initially she was going to make it £1,000 to the British Relief Association but the British Relief Association's secretary considered it insufficient and communicated this to the Queen. In response, she increased her donation to £2,000. Apparently, there is documentation that the Sultan of Turkey, who was himself a very young man at the time, offered to give £10,000 but in Constantinople, the British embassy went to his people to say that it would offend royal protocol so he reduced his donation. https://www.irishcentral.com/roots/histo...ish-famine “The honest man, tho' e'er sae poor, Is king o' men for a' that” Robert Burns |
